Promectin Plus Allwormer Paste 32.4g

Composition: Abamectin 3.7 mg/g, praziquantel 46.2 mg/g.
Description: Palatable oatmeal flavoured oral paste.
Actions: Combines abamectin, a member of the avermectin group of compounds, with praziquantel. Abamectin is a highly efficient broad spectrum wormer with activity against gastrointestinal, pulmonary and cutaneous nematodes, bots and external parasites. It acts by binding selectively to glutamate gated chloride channels in invertebrate nerve and muscle cells, and causes depolarisation of the nerve and muscle cells which leads to paralysis and death of the parasites. Abamectin has good activity against both mature and immature stages of the nematodes. In the horse this is particularly of advantage with Strongylus vulgaris, so reducing the incidence of verminous arteritis and associated colic.
Abamectin has been demonstrated to be safe when used at twice the recommended dose in foals, pregnant mares and breeding stallions, and up to five times the recommended dose in adults.
Praziquantel is an isoquinoline pyrazine which is readily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and excreted in the bile and urine. It has an extremely high activity against all species of tapeworms, is absorbed readily and rapidly by cestodes (tapeworms) and causes a rapid tetanic spasm of the musculature of the parasite and vacules to appear in the tegument. In the tapeworm there is first rapid contraction of the muscles and then a rise in the cell membrane calcium permeability which subsequently leads to muscle paralysis. Praziquantel has been shown to have a wide safety margin.
Indications: An efficient broad spectrum wormer for the treatment of internal parasites including tapeworms Anoplocephala perfoliata, A. magna, and Paranoplocephala mammillana (adult and immature, heads and segments); large strongyles Strongylus vulgaris (adults and arterial larval stages), S. edentatus (adults and tissue stages), S. equinus (adults) and Triodontophorus sp. (adults); small strongyles including benzimidazole resistant strains (adult and immature) Cyathostomum sp., Cylicocylus sp., Cylicostephanus sp., Cylicodontophorus sp., and Gyalocephalus sp.; pinworm Oxyuris equi (adult and immature); ascarids Parascaris equorum (adult and immature); hairworm Trichostrongylus axei (adult); large mouthed stomach worm Habronema muscae (adult); neck threadworm Onchocerca sp. (microfilariae); bots Gasterophilus sp. (oral and gastric stages); lungworm Dictyocaulus arnfieldi (adult and immature); and intestinal threadworm Strongyloides westeri (adult).
Also effectively controls skin lesions caused by Habronema and Draschia sp., and cutaneous larvae (summer sores) and microfilariae of Onchocerca sp. (cutaneous onchocerciasis).
Precautions: Promectin Allwormer Paste has a wide safety margin and, taking care to handle animals properly, is safe to use in foals, yearlings, stallions and pregnant mares.
Dosage and Administration: 1 ml/20 kg bodyweight (5.4 g/100 kg bodyweight) administered directly into the mouth or mixed with feed.
All horses should be included in a regular parasite program, with particular attention paid to mares, foals and yearlings. Because re-infection is common, treatment must be repeated routinely for effective control. Consult a veterinarian for a control program to meet your needs; however, in general treatment should be repeated every 6 to 8 weeks for effective worm control.
Storage: Store below 30 deg. C (room temperature). Protect from light.
